BPC-157 (Body Protection Compound 157) is a synthetic pentadecapeptide (15 amino acids) derived from a sequence present in human gastric juice. It is classified as a stable gastric pentadecapeptide because it demonstrates remarkable acid stability under gastric conditions — an unusual property for peptides, which are typically degraded by proteolytic enzymes and low gastric pH. BPC-157 promotes angiogenesis (new blood vessel formation) through upregulation of VEGF and a suite of growth factors, accelerating tissue repair signalling in preclinical wound healing and tendon models.
