GHK-Cu (Glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine copper complex) is a naturally occurring tripeptide found in human plasma, saliva, and urine that forms a high-affinity complex with copper(II) ions. Discovered by Loren Pickart in 1973, GHK-Cu has been studied across wound healing, skin regeneration, anti-inflammatory signalling, and neuroprotection research. The copper complex is essential for its activity — GHK alone has limited effect; the Cu²⁺ chelation is required for receptor interaction and downstream signalling.
